Thousands of amphibian species are threatened with extinction

Another major threat is a rapidly spreading skin disease called chytridiomycosis, which impairs respiration and hydration in amphibians. Frogs are particularly susceptible to this disease, and climate change is only exacerbating its effects.

The situation has become so dire that frog specialists are now nostalgic for the “good old days,” said Adam Lachey, a biologist at the University of Washington.
